UIL Sweepstakes Winners
Each year in the Spring semester, the University Interscholastic League holds the Concert and Sight-Reading Contest for middle and high school bands. Students work to prepare three concert selections to be performed in a concert hall, for three certified judges. They are also evaluated on their ‘sight-reading’ skills, and after performing their concert selections the band moves to another area to briefly examine and then perform a new piece of music they’ve never seen before. Three more judges rate their sight-reading performance.
Both performances are assigned a ‘division rating’ be each judge, with a 1st Division as the highest rating and a 5th Division as the lowest. When a band receives 1st Division ratings from a majority of the judges in both the concert and sight-reading settings, they are awarded the “UIL Sweepstakes”. The annual UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest is considered to be the most important evaluation of a band’s training and musicianship.
The Frisco High School Band Program is proud to have consistently received Sweepstakes awards over the past several years.

Frisco High School Celebrates Texas All-State Band Selection
Frisco High School Band Celebrates Historic All-State Honors
The Frisco High School Band program proudly recognizes one of the most distinguished accomplishments a young musician can achieve: selection to the Texas All-State Band through the rigorous and highly competitive Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) audition process.
Each year, more than 70,000 of Texas’s finest student musicians begin this journey, advancing through multiple rounds of auditions at the region, area, and state levels. Only the most elite performers earn a place in one of the 18 prestigious All-State ensembles—an honor that represents not only musical excellence, but years of discipline, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the craft.
It is with immense pride and admiration that we celebrate two outstanding Frisco High School seniors who have reached this pinnacle of achievement in 2026:
- Brianna Mihelich, Clarinet
- Nathan Hambright, Percussion
Their selection to the 2026 Texas All-State Band places them among the very best high school musicians in the state of Texas.
Brianna Mihelich’s achievement is particularly extraordinary. By earning All-State honors in both her junior and senior years, she has accomplished what only a select few musicians ever do—demonstrating sustained excellence at the highest level. This rare distinction reflects not only her exceptional talent, but also her consistency, leadership, and dedication to musical artistry.
Nathan Hambright’s selection is equally commendable, showcasing his precision, musicality, and relentless work ethic in one of the most competitive sections in the audition process.
As a program, we celebrate not just their individual success, but the example they set for the entire Frisco Band community. Their achievements embody the standard of excellence, perseverance, and pride that defines our tradition.
